"The faith-based community comes together here, without quibbles over doctrine, to help people."

Tom states, "I want people to know that if you're interested in Kingdom work, Center of Hope is the place to come. We have so many volunteer areas and opportunities to fit any interest or skill. There is a place here for everyone, both client and volunteer. I see Center of Hope as the place where people that society has kicked to the curb can come and be treated with respect, love and dignity."

Blayne Schorr
Blayne SchorrBlayne Schorr spent 17 years in the corporate environment, achieving Vice President of Business Development in a large Houston-based company. As a businessman, he traveled nation-wide with large business accounts and achieved much success. But Blayne wanted to care for the needy and down-trodden of our society and left the corporate arena for full-time vocational ministry.

When Hurricane Ike hit the Houston area, Blayne was Executive Pastor of a 10,000 member church with responsibilities in budget development, volunteer areas, leader development and training. He led his church's efforts for hurricane relief and was responsible for the care of thousands who were without homes and power as well as the ensuing rebuilding efforts. Blayne and his wife came to New River Fellowship where he serves as Executive Pastor to bring a mission perspective and instill a desire to affect the world for Christ.

"When I came to Center of Hope, I saw the heart of people who truly cared about their neighbors and I wanted to get involved on a personal and financial level as well as through my church," says Blayne. "I was hesitant about being on the Board of Directors because I have many other commitments, but saw the value of being involved in this ministry that has the right agenda of wanting to help people through faith-based principles.

The thing that draws me to Center of Hope is the Jobs for Life Program which includes an important component to benevolent aid. This program adds to people's feeling of significance, boosts their self-esteem and changes lives forever."

He has provided housing and food for several couples who had nothing, plus getting the church involved in an "Extreme Home Makeover" Aledo style. He holds weekly Bible studies in the office for employees and others plus a daily devotional before they start the work day.

Dennis is committed to being obedient to God. He recently returned from a mission trip to Cambodia to visit other churches and people in the country. This visit has really touched him."I am reminded of all the stories in the Bible but it is still hard to see people who struggle not by their own choice…I pray that my judgment doesn't come before I can do all that God wants me to do. It is hard to grow in a relationship with God and not change your view on helping others. Dennis became involved with Center of Hope through helping those that have come into his life. Dennis is a member of the Board of Directors and became more involved because he sees the opportunities Center of Hope offers and has a vision for its future.
