Bringing HOPE to children...
Camp Hope is held in various low-income neighborhoods around Parker County once a week for 2-3 hours from June through August. Volunteers read, play, and teach children and food is provided for simple cooking activities to make lunch at Camp.
In addition, groceries and home packets go home with the Campers for families to have food and activities during the week.
Basic principles of Camp Hope:
- Offer a hand up, not a hand-out. Children are taught to make their own lunch
- In the Neighborhoods We go to them instead of requiring them to come to us. Families learn of services available and also interact within their own community to strengthen that community.
- Simple Activities Everything at Camp is based on simple activities that can easily be duplicated for low-income families. Center of Hope provides the curriculum and supplies to teach children in a simple way that can be used in many different locations and settings.
- Blend of Volunteers Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to come to Camp Hope to help in their community. It's great for families, senior citizens, high school and college students, and others. Volunteers can lead, teach, play, read, and encourage children.
